“Music was the inspiration of my mom. That’s how I started my career as an entertainer. I want to point out that I worked on the river tours for 27 years. The river tour started from Wai‘ale‘ale then went into Smith’s boats. Back in those days, in order to make money on the river boats, you had to play guitar, but I only played ‘ukulele at the time. I thought it would be impossible because I’m left handed, and it took a lot of practice for me to master the guitar. The guitar was the last instrument I learned.”

    Aloha Makepa!

Makepa is a wonderful musician and person. Met him in the lobby of KBR where he gave me a wake up call! Beautiful bracelets and true aloha spirit. Bought his cd since we forgot to bring music. Was awesome to have our own Hawaiian soundtrack as we buzzed around the island in our rental car. We were even more pleased when Hanalei Moon chimed in as we entered Hanalei! Came back to the island and got married :) and we listen to his cd every time to remind us of all this. Hope to meet Makepa again as we adore him.

      Hi Rachel & Al,

I am glad that you were inspired and blessed by meeting Makepa the same way I was. Me and my fiance were in Kauai last year at the KBR where we stumbled into him, it was our destiny to meet such an enlightened person. Just curious to know about your experience in Hanalei as we had a similar experience while we listened to his music as we drove around in our rental.
